Good Bye, Good Luck Year 12
This week, we say a heartfelt goodbye to our Year 12 students, who first walked through our doors as eager Year 7's six years ago.
From their first nervous days in new uniforms, through the challenges, triumphs, and countless memories, they have grown into confident young adults ready to take their next steps beyond school.
We are so proud of all they have achieved—academically, creatively, on the sports field, and most importantly, in the way they have supported one another as a community. Year 12 have been role models for our younger students, showing leadership, resilience, and kindness.
As they prepare to move on to new adventures, we wish every one of them the very best of luck. Whether their journeys take them to university, apprenticeships, the workplace, or other exciting paths, we know they will carry with them the skills, values, and friendships they have built here.
Thank you, Year 12, for everything you’ve given to our school. You will always be part of our family, and we look forward to seeing the bright futures you will create.

Year 12 Graduation Mass
The Year 12 Graduation Mass, celebrated by Father Vince Casey, was a fitting farewell for our students and their families.
At this Mass one of our students, Shenath Fonseka responded to the Gospel. His response was insightful and exemplified the characteristics that as a staff we aspire to instill in our students after six years at St Edward’s College.
The music provided by the students and our music staff was of the highest quality and provided much joy for those in attendance. A highlight of the night was the rendition of the College song which will live long in the memory of our graduating class. The parent/staff choir surprised and impressed the congregation by performing two songs as a gift to the students. A big thank you to all those who contributed to this delightful occasion. During supper, after Mass, a wonderful convivial atmosphere prevailed in the foyer of the ERC as students, parents and the staff mingled.
All images and videos shown at the mass will be available in the coming weeks via a link sent to student email addresses.

Year 12 Award Assembly
Year 12 Farewell Assembly: Celebrating Achievements at St Edward’s College.
On Thursday, 25 September, the St Edward’s College community gathered in the ERC for a heartfelt Farewell Assembly to honour the Year 12 graduating class of 2025. Staff, students, and families came together to celebrate not only the culmination of high school but also the remarkable achievements of these young men during their time at the College.
The event was filled with nostalgia and pride as the College community celebrated the academic excellence and resilience of the Year 12 students. We honoured their outstanding achievements across a range of subjects, recognising both first and second place recipients.
Towards the end of the assembly the major award recipients were announced including the College Dux. We are proud to announce Liam Best is the 2025 College Dux. A huge congratulations to Liam and all the Award Recipients.
After receiving a standing ovation from the College community, the College Leaders proceeded to the official tree planting ceremony, a long-standing College tradition, at the lower grounds of the College. This fulfilled their final duty as St Edward’s students and marked their induction into the College Old Boys’ Union.
See the link below for all award recipients. All images shown at the Assembly and images taken over the past few days will be emailed via a link to students after the Graduation Dinner.

Spotlight on HSIE
Term 3 has been a season of immersive, hands-on learning across the HSIE faculty, with students from Years 7 to 12 engaging in a wide range of project-based assessments, excursions, and enrichment opportunities.
These experiences have brought Humanities and Social Sciences to life, fostering curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
Year 7: Archaeological Cookie Dig
Earlier this term, our Year 7 students stepped into the shoes of archaeologists—armed not with trowels and brushes, but with chocolate chip cookies! As part of their Humanities unit, students participated in a hands-on activity designed to simulate an archaeological excavation.
Each student was given a cookie and tasked with carefully “excavating” the chocolate chips using toothpicks and other tools, mimicking the delicate process of uncovering artifacts buried in the earth. The activity encouraged patience, precision, and teamwork, while sparking curiosity about the methods archaeologists use to uncover the past.
It was a deliciously educational experience that combined learning with laughter—and a few crumbs! Well done to our budding archaeologists for their enthusiasm and care during the dig.
Year 7: The Big Dig
Continuing the theme of archaeology, Year 7 History students took part in a full-scale excavation on the College grounds, carefully locating, recording, and removing ancient artefacts hidden beneath the surface. This immersive activity gave students a taste of real archaeological fieldwork and highlighted the importance of observation, documentation, and preservation.
A huge thank you to Mr Neve, who built the activity—literally—and helped bring history to life in such a memorable way.

Year 8: Viking Epic Sagas
Year 8 students explored the world of the Vikings through the creation of epic sagas, blending historical research with creative writing. These projects allowed students to delve into Norse mythology, culture, and storytelling traditions, producing imaginative narratives that demonstrated both historical understanding and literary flair.
Year 9: Sustainability Reports
In Geography, Year 9 students tackled real-world environmental challenges by producing sustainability reports. These reports involved research into local and global issues, data analysis, and the development of practical solutions. Students reflected on human impact and proposed strategies for a more sustainable future—showcasing their role as informed and responsible global citizens.
Year 9 Commerce Excursion – Erina Fair
As part of the Promoting and Selling unit, Year 9 Commerce students visited Erina Fair Shopping Centre to observe how businesses advertise, sell, and compete in the real world.
Students explored marketing strategies such as store layout, sensory elements, and digital tools, while also considering legal and ethical marketing practices. A highlight of the day was the Five Bucks to Big Bucks! Challenge, where each student received a $5 loan from the College to purchase an item and resell it for profit in Term 4. All proceeds will be donated to a College-supported charity, allowing students to see how entrepreneurial thinking can make a positive impact.
A big thank you to our students for their excellent behaviour and enthusiasm, and to Mr Griffin, Mr Foster, and Mr Gleeson for generously giving their time to support the excursion.
[foogallery id="62332"]
Year 10: Fieldwork Research Action Plans
Year 10 students engaged in fieldwork-based research action plans, identifying local geographical issues and conducting investigations to propose actionable solutions. This task encouraged students to apply geographical skills in authentic contexts, preparing them for senior studies and active civic participation.
Year 12: Legal Studies Regional Study Lectures
On 22 August, our Year 12 Legal Studies students attended the Regional Study Lectures Day hosted by the Legal Studies Association of NSW. This event brought together students from across the region to deepen their understanding of the syllabus and sharpen their exam preparation strategies.
Students engaged with experienced educators and legal professionals in sessions covering Crime, Human Rights, and Contemporary Legal Issues, gaining practical insights into essay writing, extended responses, and legal scenario analysis.
We thank the Legal Studies Association of NSW for organising such a well-structured and enriching event, and we commend our students for their enthusiastic participation and commitment to their studies.
These initiatives reflect the HSIE faculty’s commitment to innovative, student-centered learning. By embedding project-based approaches into assessment design and offering real-world learning experiences, we’re empowering students to think critically, work collaboratively, and connect their learning to the world around them.
We’re incredibly proud of the creativity, effort, and insight our students have demonstrated this term—and we look forward to continuing this momentum into Term 4!

Brilliance from Year 11 Photography Students
As part of their yearly assessment, Year 11 Photography students have produced their final films.
Each student was challenged either to create an original piece that reflects their own world or to reimagine a favourite film trailer.
Our first film, Eyes Like Mine, by Yarik, captures and celebrates the spirit of youth. See the link to view below.
[embed]https://youtu.be/Fz0MkkJKdlk[/embed]
Another outstanding video project was by Sam who created a montage of imagery, video and audio based on our recent experiences on Year 11 Retreat. Given the retreat is such a unique and valuable experience for the students, Sam has done an amazing job capturing some of the most valuable moments we shared. See the link below.

Crowne Plaza Excursion
Year 12 Hospitality students had the opportunity to attend an excursion to Crowne Plaza Terrigal.
Students explored syllabus links through specific menu types, hygiene practices, and WHS requirements. They also enjoyed a buffet breakfast and participated in a guided tour of the hotel, which included the kitchen, restaurant areas, and housekeeping. The tour highlighted employment opportunities and showcased the service standards at Crowne Plaza Terrigal, providing a valuable connection to their recent unit of work: Interact with Customers. The students represented the College with excellence, and we extend our sincere thanks to Crowne Plaza Terrigal for this enriching opportunity.

Understanding Autistic and ADHD Burnout
Autistic and ADHD burnout is a state of physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion that can occur when the demands of school, social life, and daily routines outweigh a student’s ability to cope.
It often looks like extreme fatigue, difficulty focusing, increased sensitivity, reduced motivation, or withdrawal from activities they normally enjoy.
If a student is experiencing autistic or ADHD burnout, it is important they receive the right support. Families may wish to seek guidance from health professionals such as a General Practitioner (GP), psychologist, occupational therapist, or paediatrician/psychiatrist, depending on the student’s needs. At school, you can reach out to the Diverse Learning or Pastoral Care team, where we will collaborate to support your son and help by putting strategies in place to reduce demands and build recovery time.
With understanding and the right supports, students can regain their energy and confidence in both learning and life.
Please see below a Quick Guide to support your son if they are experiencing Autistic or ADHD Burnout.

Outstanding at Oztag
Congratulations to our Oztag players on their outstanding achievements at the state Champion of Champions tournament held at Tuggerah this term.
Exceptionally, Year 10 secured their spot as the second-best team in the state! From the Year 10 team, standout performances came from Asher Bray, Billy Fennel, TJ Mahoney, and Jack Humphries, all of whom were named in the NSW Merit Team. A special mention goes to Jack Humphries, whose leadership and exceptional kicking game not only created scoring opportunities but also earned him the Tournament MVP award—an honour rarely given to a player outside the winning team. From the Senior team, congratulations to Will McClelland and Riley Turner, who were also named in the NSW Merit Team, an exceptional individual achievement.

How Do Parent's Attitudes to Mathematics Shape a Child's Success
Maths is often seen as difficult or irrelevant, yet it underpins critical skills like reasoning, problem-solving and data literacy. With many students dropping senior maths, Australia risks losing future STEM talent.
Parents play a powerful role: their own anxieties can pass to children, shaping confidence and achievement.
By modelling curiosity, valuing effort and showing maths in everyday life—through cooking, sport or games—parents can transform attitudes, helping children see maths as a useful, empowering tool for future success.
