Living our Mission Through Waterford
As a College in the Edmund Rice tradition, we are called to stand in solidarity with those in need and to act for justice in our world.
The Waterford Service Learning Program is one way we live out this mission, putting our values into action through service to others.
A reminder to all students that Waterford Hours must be completed and submitted via Canvas by the end of this Term. If you are looking for opportunities to serve, the upcoming 40 Hour Famine is a meaningful way to support communities in need while earning Waterford hours.
If you are concerned about completing your hours, please speak to your Religion teacher or Mr Rozario. Let’s ensure that our commitment to Waterford reflects not just a requirement, but a genuine contribution to building a more just and compassionate world.

Young Innovators Shine at Science and Engineering Enrichment Day
Bright minds from across the region's Catholic primary schools came together for the highly anticipated Science and Engineering Enrichment Day, hosted in St Edward’s College’s newly renovated state-of-the-art Science Laboratories.
Students were nominated by their primary school for their curiosity, creativity, and collaborative spirit.
The event brought together primary school nominees, students from St Edward’s Bungaree enrichment program, and high-achieving peers from St Joseph’s College for a day designed to ignite curiosity, foster teamwork, and inspire innovative problem-solving.
Under the guidance of Mr Trent Foster (Leader of Learning – Science) and Mr Chris Louie (teacher-in-charge of the Bungaree program) students explored hands-on experiments in aerodynamics and engineering design.
The day began with a lively welcome and warm-up session before diving into the theme “What is air? How can it be helpful?”. Activities included creating and testing vortex air cannons, investigating the effects of low air pressure using vacuums, and measuring air speed, force, and travel distance.
After recess, the focus shifted to hovercraft engineering. Students designed and built model hovercrafts, then moved on to larger-scale demonstrations, including one powered by a garden leaf blower.
Throughout the day, the laboratory buzzed with excitement as students tested, refined, and discussed their designs, often adapting their approaches to improve results.
The event concluded with reflection and sharing of key learnings, leaving students inspired to pursue further STEM opportunities. The day was not only an educational triumph but also a memorable step on their journey as future innovators.

Growing, Performing and Connecting in Performing Arts
The Performing Arts department continues to thrive, with students embracing every opportunity to grow, perform, and connect with the wider arts community. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to the exciting events ahead.
Drama
Year 12 Drama Trials
Our Year 12 Drama students recently presented their Trial HSC performances at St Joseph’s College. Students from Years 9 and 10 were invited to attend as audience members, offering a valuable opportunity for younger students to engage with senior work and gain insight into the HSC performance process.
Drama Immersion Day
Selected Year 8 students will participate in a Drama Immersion Experience as part of Belvoir St Theatre’s regional program in Week 5. They will be followed by Year 9 and 10 Drama students, who will take part in the Drama Camp program—a day dedicated to exploration, creativity, and inspiration, deepening their understanding of theatre.
Celebrating Student Success in Drama
Drama Work Experience Week at STC
[caption id="attachment_61653" align="alignright" width="150"] Charlie Ercan[/caption]
We are proud to announce that one of our talented Drama students, Charlie Ercan, has been selected to participate in a Work Experience Week with the Sydney Theatre Company (STC), joining 24 other students from Years 10 and 11 across New South Wales.
This immersive program offers a rare opportunity to explore the many facets of a professional theatre company. Each day focuses on a different STC department—such as programming, direction, set and costume design, marketing, sponsorship, and philanthropy—providing students with a comprehensive understanding of how theatre comes to life.
Congratulations to Charlie on this outstanding achievement! We look forward to hearing all about the experience.
On the Stage
[caption id="attachment_61644" align="alignright" width="300"] Theatre Sports Team[/caption]
Lachlan Herd, Cooper Herd, Oliver Pringle, Lawrence Ure, and Joseph Sykes captivated audiences with their performances in the St Joseph’s production of Frozen, held at the end of last term. Cooper followed this up with the lead role in Percy Jackson with Gosford Musical Society, which played to outstanding reviews during the first week of the school holidays. These students continue to shine beyond the classroom, demonstrating professionalism and passion.
Last term, four talented Year 10 students competed in the Theatre Sports competition—winning the Regional Finals and progressing to the Semi-Finals. St Edward’s was the only regional school in their heat. Congratulations to Charlie Ercan, David Goode, Cooper Herd, and Max Taylor for their fantastic efforts!
Music
Stage 4
Last semester, our Year 7 and 8 students actively developed their performance and composition skills. As part of a formative assessment task, they selected an instrument and chose repertoire suited to their level. It was inspiring to see the boys challenge themselves and grow in confidence and ability as they explored new musical territory.
This semester, students will continue to engage in these activities, and we look forward to their ongoing learning and development.
Stage 5
Students in Years 9 and 10 have embarked on an exciting journey through a variety of music genres, uncovering their unique characteristics and learning to perform in small ensembles and solo settings. Alongside this, they have continued to refine their technical skills. We’ve seen some outstanding performers emerge from this group and are excited to see their increasing involvement in upcoming showcase events.
Stage 6
Last term, our Year 11 Music students immersed themselves in the study of Australian Music, with a strong focus on composition. Their creativity shone through in a series of imaginative and polished works, reflecting both their growing musical understanding and individual artistic voices. The boys have also been honing their performance techniques and working diligently on their repertoire.
Our talented Year 12 Music students have completed their full performance programs for the Trial HSC and are now preparing for their HSC practical exams in Weeks 8 and 9 of this term.
HSC Performance Evening
In Week 7, our Year 12 Music students will take to the stage in the Theatre to share a selection of their HSC performance repertoire with family and friends. This special evening is a wonderful opportunity for the boys to showcase their dedication, talent, and musical growth in front of a supportive audience—just weeks before their official HSC practical exams.
One Night in November
In Term 4, our annual evening of Performing Arts excellence—One Night in November—will be held in the College Theatre. This event is always a highlight of our Performing Arts calendar, and we look forward to presenting it once again.
Liturgical Contributions and Assemblies
Students continue to enrich our school community through performances at liturgies and masses, with a special focus on the upcoming Prefect and Year 12 Graduation Mass.
Austin Maple in Year 12, Jack Jarvis, Joseph Kelly, and Tristan Maitland performed musical items at the recent Academic Awards Ceremony to a very appreciative audience. These performances offer our Music students a chance to contribute to whole-school events and experience the exhilaration of performing for a large crowd.

Conservatorium Performers
Over the weekend, several of our talented musicians performed as part of the Central Coast Conservatorium Premier Ensembles. Max Taylor played in the Youth Orchestra, Tristan Pearce-Maitland in the Senior Wind Ensemble, and George Gibbs in the Junior Wind Ensemble. The boys participated in Concert Marvel-ous Music, celebrating music in film. Former School Captain (2024), Juan Rodriguez Caldas, also performed as part of the Central Coast Concert Band.

Entertainment
Year 11 Technical Production
Year 11 students have begun the term actively working on the set design and staging of a short scene. Their work includes audio and lighting cues, set design, and the full process of bumping in and out—offering a comprehensive introduction to live production.
These students have become increasingly involved in assisting with live productions at the College and will form the backbone of upcoming events as Year 12 students transition into their HSC examinations and graduation.
Year 12
Last term, Year 12 Entertainment students were immersed in their Macbeth Staging Task, mastering all aspects of technical show production including stage management and calling the show. This hands-on experience is a vital part of their specialisation competency.

Cookie Excavation!
This term in History, 7Core1 have been learning about the work of archaeologists.
As a practical learning task to gain some understanding of the process and the implications to a site when it is excavated, the class undertook a “Cookie Excavation.”
The students first made a hypothesis about how many artefacts (chocolate chips) they would find and then drew the site (cookie) on their grid. The tools they used were toothpicks and they carefully excavated to try and minimise damage to the site.
Students found the task a fun way to learn about the process of archaeology. Special mention goes to Hamish, for the addition of safety glasses to make the process more authentic. At the end of the task, everyone got to eat the cookie, now in remnants of artefacts and cookie back dirt.

Year 9 Aboriginal Studies
Last term, our Year 9 Aboriginal Studies class concluded their exploration of Aboriginal Arts and Media.
Students examined the role of art as a powerful medium for storytelling, cultural expression, and truth-telling. As part of their assessment task, each student created an artwork that represented a story of personal significance—drawing on themes such as family, connection to place, and important life experiences.
Once completed, students reflected on their creative process and analysed the meaning within their artworks, considering how symbols, colours, and composition communicated their chosen story. This process not only developed their understanding of Aboriginal art traditions but also encouraged them to think deeply about how art can convey complex ideas and emotions.
Two exemplary student works are featured below, showcasing the creativity, insight, and personal expression demonstrated in the unit.

Rugby Union 7’s – Under 14’s
On 8 August, St Edward’s entered two teams in the Under 14’s Central Coast Rugby Sevens Tournament.
The St Edward’s Black side was led by Fraser Boake and they started the day with a strong win against Gorokan High School, 7 tries to 0. The following game against Erina High School also resulted in a convincing win where everyone contributed, ending up with a 6 tries to 0 victory. These great results propelled the team into the grand final where they met Central Coast Sports College. The stage was set for a blockbuster and it didn’t disappoint, with both teams playing amazing rugby in an entertaining and physical match. Unfortunately for our side, the result didn’t go our way, with the opposition proving too strong, winning 6 tries to 2.
The team now turn their attention to the upcoming Broken Bay Tournament where they hope to continue to improve and, hopefully, come home with the trophy.
The Team
Fraser Boake, Saint Levae, Alex Winner, Nick Humphries, Tyler Preston, Kody Teasedale, Ambrose Plunkett, Nicholas Smith, Leo Streater, Tobi Ruhl, Beau McKeon, Oliver Johnson, Harry Lowbridge.

Rugby Union 7’s – Under 16’s
Central Coast Championships
On a chilly, slightly breezy Friday morning, the Under 16s rugby union squad travelled to Tuggerah Sporting Complex to compete in the Central Coast Rugby 7s. Brimming with high hopes and fielding two squads boasting hard-running forwards and a few fleet-footed backs, the boys opened their campaign with a solid victory over a talented and determined Erina High School side.
Sadly, that first win would prove their only taste of victory for the day. Both teams battled hard in narrow, hard-fought losses to the Central Coast Sports College Black and Grey squads, Terrigal High, and Gorokan High. Every match was played at a blistering pace, with moments of great skill on display from all—perhaps none more memorable than prop Cooper Djericin’s audacious chip-and-chase from inside his own 25, channeling his inner Mark Ella or a young Jonathan Thurston.
Though the results didn’t go their way, the experience, camaraderie, and laughs will last far longer than the sting of defeat. Special thanks go to Mr Reynolds for his positive words of wisdom and sharp game insights—delivered, of course, while dancing along the sideline and reliving his glory days as a very handy inside back.

SRS: Applications, Offers and Preferences
Schools Recommendation Scheme
SRS application and offer dates
Application deadline: 5 September
Course preference deadline: 6 November
First offers released: 13 November (November Round 1)
Conditional offers converted to unconditional offers: from 23 December (December Round 2)
Tips for navigating offers and preferences
SRS offers are only for eligible courses included in a student's UAC preferences at the time offers are made. Not every institution participates in SRS and not all courses are eligible. Participating institutions and their criteria
In November Round 1, students can receive one unconditional offer and multiple conditional offers. To convert a conditional offer to an unconditional one, students must keep the course in their UAC preference list and meet the institution's specified criteria.
Students should always prioritise their dream course. In December Round 2, they won’t be penalised for ranking their dream course above a course for which they've received a conditional offer, even if an institution instructs them to list the conditional course as their 'highest eligible preference'.
If they miss out on their dream course, their next choice will be considered, and so on. Their conditional offer will be considered after the courses listed above it have been considered. If the conditional course is listed as their top choice, and they’ve met the conditions, they will receive the offer and not be considered for courses listed below it.
