Young Innovators Shine at Science and Engineering Enrichment Day
12.08.25
Bright minds from across the region’s Catholic primary schools came together for the highly anticipated Science and Engineering Enrichment Day, hosted in St Edward’s College’s newly renovated state-of-the-art Science Laboratories.

Students were nominated by their primary school for their curiosity, creativity, and collaborative spirit.

The event brought together primary school nominees, students from St Edward’s Bungaree enrichment program, and high-achieving peers from St Joseph’s College for a day designed to ignite curiosity, foster teamwork, and inspire innovative problem-solving.

Under the guidance of Mr Trent Foster (Leader of Learning – Science) and Mr Chris Louie (teacher-in-charge of the Bungaree program) students explored hands-on experiments in aerodynamics and engineering design.

The day began with a lively welcome and warm-up session before diving into the theme “What is air? How can it be helpful?”. Activities included creating and testing vortex air cannons, investigating the effects of low air pressure using vacuums, and measuring air speed, force, and travel distance.

After recess, the focus shifted to hovercraft engineering. Students designed and built model hovercrafts, then moved on to larger-scale demonstrations, including one powered by a garden leaf blower.

Throughout the day, the laboratory buzzed with excitement as students tested, refined, and discussed their designs, often adapting their approaches to improve results.

The event concluded with reflection and sharing of key learnings, leaving students inspired to pursue further STEM opportunities. The day was not only an educational triumph but also a memorable step on their journey as future innovators.
