The Waterford Project for Students in Years 8 to 11
Welcome back to St Edward’s for the 2021 school year. Social Justice is a central focus at the College where staff and students participate in a wide variety of programs which emphasise awareness, advocacy and action.
We are guided by the Edmund Rice Schools’ Touchstones:
Justice and Solidarity
Liberating Education
Gospel Spirituality
Inclusive Community
A key part of our long and ongoing commitment to Social Justice is the Waterford Project, which is a condition of enrolment and requires every student in Years 8 to 11 (optional for Year 12) to complete a minimum of 15 hours of service for others by the end of Term 3. Some opportunities are listed below.
Parents too play a crucial role in ensuring that our boys complete their service for others, by encouraging and thinking of meaningful ways for their son to be involved.
As Catholics/Christians, we try to follow our heritage, found in the values of Jesus and Blessed Edmund Rice (founder of the Christian Brothers) in love, compassion, forgiveness and peace, in a humble manner. Our Social Justice programs at the College aim to enact and enable our boys in this way.
I can be contacted throughout the year, by telephoning 4321 6439 or via email pdell@stedwards.nsw.edu.au.

COVID-19: Due to ongoing and changing restrictions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, some school-based and/or community activities which are listed may be postponed and/or cancelled. The College will be informed and make changes as the year progresses, if necessary.

Welcome Year 7
It was so exciting to watch the St Edward's Class of 2026 arriving for their first day. They looked terrific in their new uniforms and sharp haircuts.
A big thank you to parents for embracing our COVID safe protocols and saying goodbye to their sons at the school gate. Everyone was very brave and I only noticed a few tears – from the parents not the boys!
After a few words of welcome from our Principal, Mr Mark Bonnici, the boys received their book packs, met their Home Room teacher and headed off to join the world of high school. A busy day lay ahead, with tours of the school led by senior students and a full day of orientation activities with their Core class. Meeting new friends was a highpoint for many, although lunch time exploring the new canteen, the well-resourced library, the basketball courts and the ovals came a close second. A big welcome to our latest crop of Eddies boys!

Representative Sport
Welcome to all the Year 7 students and families as well as all our other year groups and their families.
We look forward to another great year of competition for St Edward's teams and individuals in both school-based and external-based events/competitions. Fingers crossed that 2021 will give our students more opportunities this year.
Currently, our various platforms for sport are confident that inter-school sport will return to some sort of normal. This however will be guided by individual sporting associations and sports around any restrictions that might be in place at the time of a sporting competition/event. We will aim to keep you updated via our permission notes and the College App.
Students have been reminded at year meetings and assemblies to listen out for notices for teams and when they need to attend meetings/training/selection trials. Depending on the sport, age group and number of players trying out – selection trials will be run during lunchtime or after school to try and give all students an opportunity to be selected in the team. However, it is a representative team, and, in some sports/events, we are limited in the number of players we can select. In certain instances if students are away, sick, injured, forget appropriate playing gear, or do not turn up to meetings/trials or training – they may miss out on their opportunity to represent the College.
All information regarding team meetings will be conveyed via the ‘Daily Notices’ read out in morning Roll Call or can be accessed by students via the College Google Chrome Homepage.
Please contact me at the College via email jcarpenter@stedwards.nsw.edu.au or phone 4321 6400 if you have any concerns or questions related to Sport at the College.

College Swimming Carnival
Due to the unknown restrictions for sporting events late last year, the College decided to cancel our normal College swimming carnival at Woy Woy PLC and run a ‘Competitive Swimmers Only’ carnival on Tuesday 23 February (Week 5) at Gosford Pool.
A ‘Competitive Swimmers Only’ carnival will allow us to select our representative swimmers for the BBSSSA carnival in Week 7 (Thursday 11 March).
Students will be asked to register for the carnival events during Week 3 (information for this will be provided in that week’s Daily Notices). Events include:
200 m Freestyle (Jun [12-14 years], Intermediate [15-16 years] and Senior [17+ years])
50 m Freestyle (12-17+ years)
50 m Backstroke (12-17+ years)
50 m Breaststroke (12-17+ years)
50 m Butterfly (12-17+ years)
100 m Freestyle (12-17+ years)
All registered students (only) will walk down to Gosford Pool, under staff supervision, to run this selection carnival. Information for this will be passed on to students closer to the date of the event. We ask that only serious/competitive swimmers register.
All remaining students and staff will attend school as per a normal school day.
In 2022 our College Swimming Carnival will return to its normal all school format.
NSWCCC and NSW All Schools
Information regarding long distance swimming events at NSWCCC and NSW All Schools carnivals can be found on the following link:
