A very warm Friday saw the running of the College Cross Country for Year 7 and 8. The 3 km course started on the ovals and then wound up and around the College via the driveways and laneway. The students completed two laps of the course with the added motivation of a cold drink and ice block on competition.
The afternoon was coordinated by the Year 11 SPC2 Sport Coaching class, who had spent the previous two weeks organising and planning the course, formatting the logistics for the day, preparing the warm-up of students, staff checkpoints, equipment required, general set-up of the day, newsletter and assembly reports.
Of course, the reason behind the afternoon was to run the event and select our teams for the Broken Bay (BBSSSA) carnival in Term 2. The top 3 places for each Age Group were as follows:
Age Group | Place | Student | House |
Under 12 | 1st | Keanu Wells | Knights (Green) |
2nd | Nate Vaughan | Shanahan (Blue)
3rd | Byron Marks | Doolan (White)
Under 13 | 1st | Matthew Kairouz | Doolan (White) |
2nd | Keenan White | Spillane (Red)
3rd | Tahj Werner | Doolan (White)
Under 14 | 1st | Will Browning | Shanahan (Blue) |
2nd | Luke Foster | Knights (Green)
3rd | Joseph Lewis | Shanahan (Blue) |
The House competition was won by Doolan (151 points) in a very close contest, with Shanahan (150 points), Knights (120 points) and Spillane (111 points). These points will be added to the overall house competition totals.
All students who attended and competed on the day are to be commended on their effort and the way they allowed our competitive runners the opportunity to compete. It made for an enjoyable afternoon – well done boys.
The Broken Bay Cross Country will be held at St Ives Showground on Tuesday 7 May (Week 2, Term 2). Later in the Term, students from Years 9 to 12 (14 to 18 years) will be called upon to nominate for the Broken Bay Cross Country. Students will be given permission notes for this event prior to the school holidays.
