Food Technology
There have been many exciting things happening in the Food Technology department during the first semester. The boys continue to embrace the practical side of Food Technology and Hospitality.

The Year 9 and 10 students are increasing in confidence in their own skills and are starting to add their own flair to the presentation of their practicals.

Year 11 Food Technology participated in a workshop with Sharyn from Cake & Plate. The boys decorated cupcakes with a “Marvel” theme and learnt how to mould and work with fondant. There were 5 compulsory styles and the boys were then able to create their own. A fun day was had by all!!

Year 11 Hospitality had their first of two work-placements. The employers were impressed with their skills in the kitchen and ability to work in a commercial establishment.

Year 12 Hospitality have added to their repertoire of practical skills preparing a High Tea (for an assessment task), as well as a delicious Passionfruit Sponge. The recipe is below. Year 12 also completed their Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee qualification at Blendco, Lisarow. We are grateful for Erin’s support in this training opportunity.

Year 12 Food Technology went to East Coast Beverages and Grace Springs Farm as part of their study into the Operations of the Australian Food Industry and Food Manufacturing. It was a fantastic opportunity to view the paddock to plate concept locally, as well as seeing a farmer that is committed to the ethical treatment of her livestock.
