Sacramental Mass
St Edward’s Sacramental Mass at St Patrick’s East Gosford
St Edward’s is dedicated to nurturing and encouraging the spiritual growth of each person, providing opportunities for our young men to deepen their faith and spirituality, through reflection, prayer, sacred stories, rituals and the sacraments. One way this is achieved is through our College sacramental program. The culmination of this program for our two students was to receive their sacraments during mass on Saturday August 23 at St Patrick’s East Gosford.
This Mass was celebrated by Bishop Anthony Randazzo and Father Greg Skulski, St Patrick's Parish Priest. The commitment made by these young men and their families to support them on their faith and spiritual journey provides us with great joy as a community. Being able to support their decision and prepare them to receive the sacraments at their age is a great cause for celebration. We thank their families for entrusting us with this important role and thank them for their ongoing support.
We are forever grateful to Father Greg from St Patrick’s Parish for his dedication to working with our young men in the development of their own faith and spirituality.
The students who received their sacraments were Vincent Porter and Henry Foulsham.

Prefect Investiture Mass
Investiture of College Captain, Vice-Captains and Prefects
In a solemn and reverent Mass, presided over by Father Vince Casey, our College community gathered to celebrate one of the most significant moments of the school year – the Investiture of the College Captain, Vice-Captains and Prefects for 2025–2026. This moving occasion, filled with prayer, music, and reflection, honoured the young men entrusted with the responsibility of leadership within our College.
As part of the ceremony, the prefect body for 2025–2026 was officially welcomed. Their leadership badges, a symbol of commitment and service, were blessed during the liturgy and then carefully pinned onto their blazers by one of their parents, a deeply touching gesture that reflected both family pride and the supportive partnership between home and College.
At the conclusion of Mass, the announcement of the 2025–2026 College Captain and Vice-Captains was made to warm applause:
College Captain – Thomas Perham
Vice-Captain – Isaac McCudden
Vice-Captain – Angus Stewart
Alongside them, we also congratulate and celebrate our College Prefects, who will join the Captain and Vice-Captains in guiding their peers with integrity, generosity and vision:
Ruben Borg
Charlie Cranny
Samuel Duffy
Benjamin Geddes-Brown
Cooper Harker
Malcolm Hawkins
Jonathan Lin
Luke Nakagawa
Coby Neilly
Eden Pearson
Isaac Plunkett
Harrison Ryan
Nate Saley
The Mass was further enriched by the voices and talents of our students, whose hymns created a prayerful and uplifting atmosphere. These musical contributions, prepared with dedication under the guidance of our music staff, were nothing short of outstanding, reflecting many hours of practice and commitment.
This investiture was not simply a ceremony, but a powerful reminder of the values of faith, service, and leadership that lie at the heart of our College. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Father Vince Casey, our staff, musicians, parents, and all who played a part in making this celebration so meaningful.

Environmental Symposium
Report written by Harry Evans, Year 10
The Environment Conference, held at Edmund Rice College, Wollongong on Friday, 5 September, was an exciting and engaging opportunity for St Edward’s Environment Portfolio students to further develop our understanding of how we can improve biodiversity within our school.
The day consisted of talks and workshops led by esteemed professionals and leaders in the fields of biodiversity and environmental conservation. Dr James Dorey, a lecturer in Biological Sciences at the University of Wollongong, delivered an engaging presentation on bees and their vital role in biodiversity, followed by a thought-provoking introduction to Market Gardens, which culminated in a creative bee-themed art activity. To conclude the day, students from Edmund Rice College generously provided us with Bee Hotels to take back to our schools, encouraging the promotion of biodiversity within our own environments.
A huge thank you to Edmund Rice College for hosting such a fantastic day, to all the speakers who contributed, to the Food Technology and Hospitality students for their excellent catering, and to Mr Lord for taking us down and back.

Max Potential Showcase
The Gosford RSL Max Potential program, supported by Clubs NSW, provides young people with a unique 22-week opportunity to grow as leaders and contribute to their community.
Through coaching, reflection, and creative expression, participants explore issues of wellbeing and social responsibility while building skills that extend well beyond the classroom.
This year, St Edward’s College was represented by Charlie Cranny, Isaac McCudden, and Finn Ryan-Englund. Each embraced the challenges of the program, showing commitment to developing their confidence, values, and leadership mindset. Their efforts were recently showcased at the Personal Expression event, where they presented short films capturing their individual journeys. The evening was a celebration of growth, with coaches and peers acknowledging the maturity and insight each student has gained throughout their Max Potential experience.

Science in Action
ANSTO Visit – Year 12 Physics and Investigating Science
Australia is fortunate to host a world-class nuclear research reactor at Lucas Heights, Sydney. ANSTO is a global leader in research, the production of life-saving medical isotopes, and the doping of silicon crystals for semiconductors.
Year 12 Physics and Investigating Science students had the unique opportunity to see their classroom learning applied in real-world contexts. Guided by scientists and researchers, students experienced the scale of the technology, met professionals across diverse fields, and saw how science is both collaborative and practical.
As they approach their final weeks of school, the boys can now draw on this experience to strengthen their understanding and responses in the upcoming HSC exams. Sincere thanks to Ms Olip, Ms Welsh, Mr Marks, and Mr Foster for making the visit possible.
ORICA Visit – Year 12 Chemistry
Last week, Year 12 Chemistry students visited ORICA’s Kooragang Island facility in Newcastle to explore the industrial production of ammonia via the Haber Process. This equilibrium reaction, a key focus of the HSC course, was brought to life as students examined the reaction’s reversibility, commercial conditions, and plant location considerations.
The excursion also highlighted sustainability measures, emission monitoring, and the role of by-products in industrial chemistry. To conclude, students engaged with recent graduates to discuss pathways into university and careers in chemical engineering—a valuable experience for those considering this field of study.
Special thanks to Mr Lynch and Mr Foster for organising this rewarding visit.
HSC Science Extension – Major Works
Earlier this term, Year 12 Science Extension students Chikomborero Katsande and Max Oteiwi submitted their major works, both investigating the antimicrobial properties of bee products. Chiko explored the effectiveness of propolis, while Max compared different varieties of honey.
Through this research, the boys developed skills in question design, hypothesis testing, statistical analysis, project management, and working with expert mentors.
You can view their outstanding projects below:

Intermediate Basketball
The St Edward’s Intermediate basketball team produced a season packed with excitement, teamwork, and unforgettable moments.
Featuring a talented roster — Cooper Armstrong, Rasmus Borg, Fletcher Bush, Kobi Durant, Max English, Josh Marsters, Oscar McMahon, Max Millar, Mason Potestas, Aden Tillot, Joel Washington, and Raph Williams — the boys displayed skill, resilience, and true sportsmanship in every game.
The tournament tipped off with a nail-biting showdown against Mater Maria Catholic College, finishing in a dramatic 30-30 draw. Joel and Raph anchored the defence by shutting down key scorers, while Kobi and Max Millar controlled the boards. In the dying seconds, Oscar delivered the highlight of the match, draining a deep three-pointer to tie the game and ignite the crowd — a clutch play that set the tone for the season.
Game two brought a dominant 43-23 victory over MacKillop Catholic College. Josh spearheaded the offence with fearless drives to the basket, while Cooper and Fletcher’s relentless defence forced turnovers that turned into fast-break points. Max English ran the floor with composure, threading sharp passes and orchestrating plays, while Mason and Aden provided a spark off the bench with crucial rebounds and hustle. The team’s chemistry and execution shone through.
Momentum carried into their third matchup against St Peter’s Catholic College, where the boys cruised to a 40-22 win. Rasmus was a force inside, pulling down rebounds and swatting shots, while Joel found his rhythm with confident mid-range jumpers. Oscar continued to light it up from beyond the arc and locked down opponents on the perimeter. Kobi and Josh pushed the tempo, creating easy scoring opportunities for teammates. Hustle and communication defined this commanding performance.
The final game was a hard-fought battle with St Paul’s Catholic College, ending in a 33-43 loss. Despite the scoreline, the boys showed grit and determination. Fletcher and Max Millar battled for every rebound, Cooper provided steady leadership, and Raph and Mason turned up the intensity on defence. Aden drained a clutch jumper to keep hopes alive, but St Paul’s ultimately pulled away. Even in defeat, the team’s resilience and heart were undeniable.
Across the tournament, every player left their mark, contributing effort, energy, and passion. From Oscar’s buzzer-beater to their back-to-back wins, the St Edward’s Intermediate basketball team proudly represented the College and demonstrated a bright future for this talented group of young athletes.

At La Trobe, there’s more than one way into uni. A diploma is a great pathway option into a Bachelor’s course. Plus, with a diploma, students can get course credit towards a range of degrees at La Trobe, so they can graduate sooner.
If students didn’t get the ATAR they wanted or they don’t have an ATAR, a diploma at La Trobe University may be the pathway. Several of our diploma offerings no longer require an ATAR as an entry requirement, allowing more access for students. Prerequisites may vary between diplomas, and students must still meet the minimum requirements for their chosen course.
The diploma courses are now updated on the VTAC website with the new entry requirement changes to several of our diplomas. We apologise for any inconveniences caused during this entry requirement change and hope the following information is helpful for your students. Students can now choose from several diploma (CSP) courses with ATARs removed below:
Diploma in Business
Diploma in Health Sciences
Diploma of Information Technology
Diploma of Arts
Diploma of Biological Sciences
Diploma of Elite Sport Business
Diploma of Rural Health
Diploma of Science
Diploma of Sport Coaching and Development
Diploma of Agricultural Science
