Palms International Volunteering has gap year volunteer placements starting February 2026 in Cambodia and Timor-Leste. These aren’t just “gap year experiences”—they’re structured, supported programs that develop real skills while serving communities that have specifically requested help.

Current gap year roles include:

  • Youth accompaniment/English tutor roles with Don Bosco programs in Cambodia
  • English support for rural youth in Timor-Leste

What makes these different:

  • Authentic community-led placements (communities request the support)
  • Comprehensive February training course including safety, cultural preparation, and practical skills
  • Ongoing in-country support from established partner organisations
  • Skills development: cross-cultural communication, youth work, teaching, adaptability
  • Return with experience that genuinely stands out for university applications and future careers

Practical details:

  • Start: February 2026 (after summer break)
  • Duration: 12 months
  • Placements: Cambodia and Timor-Leste
  • Full preparation and ongoing support included

For your students, this means:

  • A year that builds skills for their future (not just “time off”)
  • Safe, structured program with 60+ years of experience
  • Connection with returned volunteer community
  • Experience that universities and employers genuinely value

Next steps: Could you share this opportunity with your graduating students and their families? We’re happy to hold an Information Session for Students and Families on Tuesday 2 December 6pm AEST and 9pm AEST (for West Australians) to answer any questions.

Further information on placements overseas can be found on our website https://palms.org.au/current-opportunities/ or by calling 02 9560 5333 or 0413 013 690.
