Defence Work Experience Program – Students apply directly to us.
The Defence Work Experience Program is currently accepting applications for the following placements:
- Air Force Familiarisation Program: RAAF Williamtown (Aug)
- 6 – 8 Aug 2025
The Air Force Familiarisation Program is designed to give students exposure to what a career in the Air Force could be like. Roles covered in this placement may include aircrew, technical, ground support roles, military working dogs, engineering, maintenance, logistics, air traffic control, PTI’s, medical and fire & rescue. We are looking for students that are curious and open to new experiences. Activities that you may participate in may include:
- Flight Simulators & Aircraft Movement Simulators
- Leadership activities – group trust and problem solving activities
- Military life and skills training (marching, drill and compass navigation) – all you need for this is a flexible attitude and cognitive ability to follow directions
- Seminars and discussions with various Australia Defence Force and Australian Public Service personnel
- Hands on activities and job-based scenarios

This event is available for both online and in-person with panelists presenting from the Newcastle Division Auditorium.
This engaging event showcases the diverse and rewarding career pathways in engineering, giving high school students, teachers, and parents the chance to hear directly from young engineers working across a range of fields. These professionals will share their personal journeys, insights, and real-world experiences to help students envision their own future in engineering.

Students can provide up to three short personal statements (max 200 words each). We want to hear about how they’ve given back to their community, tackled adversity or managed big family responsibilities – these can make a real difference to their selection rank.
Our on-demand ACU Guarantee: early offers and student pathways webinar will support your students with their application and features current students sharing insider tips on applications, impact statements and how to nail those personal stories.
Eligible students will receive their offers in September, so they can focus on Year 12 knowing they’ve got an offer.
