Cultural Festival
08.12.25
This term, St Edward’s embraced our diverse global community through our annual Eddie’s Cultural Festival.
Rather than our usual lunchtime activities, this year’s festival invited students to experience culture more deeply within their learning spaces, with a focus on participation, respect, and curiosity.
Our Year 9 cohort took part in an energetic Chinese Martial Arts incursion, led by external presenters. Students not only enjoyed the physical challenge, but also gained an appreciation for the discipline, history, and cultural traditions behind the movements. Many students commented on how different it felt to “learn with their whole body” rather than just from a textbook.
Some of our Visual Arts students explored the beauty and precision of calligraphy, discovering how written language can also be a powerful art form.
In Music, classes were introduced to the rhythms of Brazilian drumming, filling the College with vibrant percussion and highlighting the way music can connect people across languages and borders.
Eddie’s Cultural Festival continues to be an important part of College life, reminding us that culture is something to be shared, celebrated, and respected. We thank all staff and students for their enthusiastic involvement, and we look forward to building on these experiences in future years as we continue to celebrate the richness of cultures within and beyond our St Edward’s community.
