Our Year 9 and 10 Commerce students recently participated in Game 1 of the 2025 ASX Sharemarket Game, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in the world of investing. Each student syndicate was given $50,000 in virtual capital to trade over a 15-week period using live market data.
With access to over 300 ASX-listed companies, 55 Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), and 5 Listed Investment Companies (LICs), students explored investment strategies, navigated market volatility, and refined their decision-making skills. The experience brought financial literacy to life and deepened students’ understanding of the sharemarket in a dynamic and practical way.
Congratulations to all participants for their enthusiasm and growth—and to the HSIE faculty for fostering such meaningful learning opportunities!

Year 11 Ancient History: Mummifying Bananas
As part of their study of Tutankhamun and ancient Egyptian burial practices, Year 11 Ancient History students took part in a creative, hands-on activity: mummifying bananas.
The boys approached the task with curiosity and focus, carefully working through each stage of the mummification process—from symbolic organ removal to drying and wrapping. Their thoughtful application of historical knowledge, combined with a willingness to get involved, made the activity both meaningful and memorable.
This practical experience not only deepened their understanding of ancient Egyptian rituals and beliefs but also sparked lively discussion and reflection. It was a fun and effective way to bring the ancient world to life in the classroom.
These diverse and engaging activities reflect the HSIE faculty’s commitment to delivering high-impact, real-world learning that connects students with the past, present, and future.
