On Tuesday 13 May, the St Edward’s Intermediate Football Team travelled to Croma to participate in a Gala Day competition against fellow Catholic schools from across our diocese. Despite the wet weather forcing a change in format to a single knock-out tournament, our team rose to the challenge with determination and team spirit.

In a tightly contested match against St Leo’s Catholic College, both teams displayed strong defensive efforts, resulting in a 0-0 scoreline at halftime. Early in the second half, St Leo’s managed to break the deadlock with a fortunate strike that ricocheted off the post and rolled into the net.

Undeterred, our boys continued to press forward. Their persistence paid off when Archie Lowe was brought down in the penalty area, earning a spot kick. Beau Louie stepped up with confidence and delivered a superbly taken penalty to level the score.

With no goals scored during extra time, the match proceeded to a tense penalty shootout. Despite a valiant effort, St Edward’s narrowly missed out, with St Leo’s emerging as the victors.

Although the result didn’t go our way, the team demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship and resilience. They held their heads high and graciously congratulated their opponents on a well-fought contest. The day was a testament to the spirit and character of our players, who represented St Edward’s with pride.
