Human Society
and Its Environment

The HSIE faculty is committed to fostering critical thinking, active citizenship and a deep understanding of the diverse world we live in.

Think Globally, Act Locally.
Through dynamic and engaging learning experiences, our students explore how societies function and interact with their environments.

Student-led initiatives are a hallmark of our faculty, offering hands-on opportunities to apply knowledge and skills in real-world contexts. For example, Year 8 students delve into the ecological significance of our local mangrove environment during Geography fieldwork, gaining insights into sustainability and environmental stewardship. In Commerce, students embrace the challenge of competing in state-based ASX Share Market competitions, honing financial literacy and strategic thinking.

In Year 10 History, students investigate pivotal civil rights issues, fostering an appreciation for social justice and historical inquiry. Additionally, the Year 9 elective Aboriginal Studies provides an invaluable opportunity to connect more deeply with Country, exploring Indigenous knowledge systems, culture, and heritage.

In HSIE, we inspire students to think globally, act locally, and make meaningful contributions to their communities.
