Last week, our College hosted its second “College Sleepout” for 2024. The Sleepout is an event where students have the unique opportunity to spend a night sleeping rough in the College Quad. This event is designed to help students build empathy and a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by rough sleepers in our community. While we can never truly know what it is like to live without the security of a home, the experience provided a powerful glimpse into the realities of homelessness.
We were honoured to have Peter Downie and Jarrah Wallace from Coast Shelter join us for the evening. They provided a compelling overview of the homelessness crisis on the Central Coast and explained the vital work being done by Coast Shelter to support those in need. Their insights were eye-opening, and we extend an immense thank you to them for their time, dedication, and the crucial role they play in our community.
In addition to the experience, students also made a meaningful contribution by donating $10 each, which will go directly to Coast Shelter to aid them in their mission to help those who are most vulnerable.
This event not only raised awareness but also fostered a spirit of compassion and solidarity among our students. We are proud of their willingness to participate and support such a worthy cause.
