A Clear Path Into St Edward’s

Enrolment Process

We welcome families who share our values, here’s how the enrolment process works, step by step.

Our Process
We operate as a non-selective Catholic College, enrolling boys in Years 7–12 depending on availability. Guided by the gospel tradition, we seek to form young men worthy of dignity, learning and service.

The College is a learning community which provides a contemporary, holistic and liberating education that challenges, nurtures and inspires young men in Years 7-12 to be aspirational regarding their future. Students are encouraged to strive to achieve their personal best, developing the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes to flourish in an ever-changing world.

If you are looking for this kind of education for your child, the next step is to complete and submit an online application for enrolment.

Although our major intake is students entering Year 7, we enrol students in all Year levels depending on the availability of places.

If an enrolment offer is made, families will be required to pay a $500 non-refundable enrolment acceptance fee.

Principles of Enrolment

As an Edmund Rice School, we are guided by Catholic Social teaching, which states that, ‘each person possesses a basic dignity that comes from God, not from any human quality or accomplishment, not race, gender, age or economic status’. We aim to provide an education where the dignity of each young person is paramount.

As an Inclusive Community, St Edward’s College does not exclude students based on academic ability. We are accepting of students with various abilities and diverse learning backgrounds and gifts. We are committed to assisting the individual needs of each person, providing teaching and learning experiences that are authentic, relevant, rigorous and creative.

We are committed to providing a holistic education integrating faith with culture and learning, while instilling an appreciation of the need to strive for the greater good of all society.

St Edward’s College includes students and families from other Christian and non-Christian faith traditions, and we continue to invite and welcome such applications.

Waiting Lists and Priority of Enrolment

The College ultimately has discretion whether to place a prospective student on the College’s waiting list, offer an interview, or offer a place of enrolment.

In exercising that discretion, the College considers a range of criteria, including but not limited to the following:

  • The date a fully completed application for enrolment is received (noting incomplete applications will not be processed).
  • The information disclosed in the application for enrolment.
  • The child’s pre-enrolment interview and if applicable, pre-enrolment assessments.
  • Whether the child is eligible for a priority offer of enrolment as:
    • a sibling of a current student (noting that siblings will be prioritised provided an application for enrolment is submitted within 12 months of the start of the College year they are due to commence);
    • a result of their faith as a child of a family who is a practicing Catholic family, has demonstrable links to their Catholic faith community, and/or who are prepared to support the ethos and values of Catholicism (with consideration given to a child’s family’s links to Orthodox or other Christian faiths).
  • The child’s behavioural history.
  • Whether the values and beliefs of the child’s family clearly align with the vision, mission and values of the College.
  • The starting year level of the child and whether this aligns with a main year level entry point at the College.
  • The College’s capacity, as an inclusive College, to support a prospective student’s relevant needs in the College environment.
  • The merits of the application, prospective student’s suitability for enrolment at the College, and individual circumstances and practical implications including the:
    • number of students currently enrolled at the College;
    • prospective student’s family circumstances (including the willingness of the student and their parent to comply with the College’s policies and procedures);
    • prospective student’s interests and participation in extra-curricular activities (including religious activities);
    • reasonableness of the adjustments required to facilitate the prospective student’s education (including their personalised plan);
    • College’s resources and capacity to deliver an education to the student in accordance with its educational model;
    • prospective student’s willingness and ability to comply with the College’s behavioural standards;
    • prospective student’s willingness and ability to derive a benefit from the College’s educational model;
    • prospective student’s College-readiness;
    • willingness of each family to endorse the College’s vision, mission and values; and
    • any other considerations set out in the Enrolment Policy.
