Elliott Cleary in Year 10, has achieved an outstanding milestone in his karate journey, recently representing NSW at the Australian National Karate Championships in Tasmania and being crowned National Champion in the Kumite Cadet -70kg division.
Elliott’s success at the national championships is a testament to his dedication, discipline and commitment to excellence. Competing against the best young karate athletes from across Australia, Elliott displayed exceptional skill, determination and composure to secure the national title — a remarkable achievement at this level of competition.
Elliott is a valued member of both the NSW Karate Squad and the Australian National Karate Squad, continuing to represent his state and country with pride. Earlier this year, he was recognised for his achievements when he was awarded NSW Karate Cadet Sports Star of the Year, highlighting his outstanding contribution and success within the sport.
Elliott has also continued to challenge himself on the international stage, competing at the Karate One Youth League in Manila in May, where he gained further experience against some of the world’s leading junior karate athletes.
Following his recent national success, Elliott’s results would have qualified him for selection to represent Australia in the Cadet division at the upcoming Junior World Championships in Poland. However, with Elliott turning 16 shortly before the competition, he will transition into the Junior category and is no longer eligible to compete as a Cadet. Rather than slowing his progress, this next step provides Elliott with a new challenge as he sets his sights on earning selection to represent Australia in the Junior division next year.
