Founder’s Day Celebration: A Day of Fun, Unity, and Generosity
We are thrilled to share the success of this year's Founder's Day!
The entire school community came together for a day filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a shared sense of purpose. Students and staff alike enjoyed participating in a variety of activities that made the day truly special.
Some of the standout moments included the ever-popular dunk tank, where brave volunteers took the plunge for a good cause, and the high-energy bubble soccer matches that had everyone on their feet (or off them!). The lolly shop was a sweet treat for all, and the Mario Kart tournament brought out some friendly competition, with cheers echoing throughout the Theatre.
But beyond the fun, Founder's Day was also about giving back. Thanks to the generosity of our College community, we raised a significant amount of money for the organisations and charities we support in Kenya. This incredible effort will make a real difference in the lives of those in need, and we couldn’t be more proud of the contributions made by our students and staff.
Thank you to everyone who participated, and supported this fantastic event, with a massive thank you to the staff for facilitating and supervising the activities. Founder's Day 2024 will be remembered as a day of joy, unity, and meaningful impact. We look forward to making the next one even better!

Football Academy
The St Edward’s College Football Academy is entering its sixth week, and the boys are working hard within all Academy activities.
They are improving themselves as footballers and have fully embraced the training program. The commitment and enthusiasm shown by the boys has been exemplary. The 32 boys from Years 8 and 9 are representing themselves and the College with absolute distinction.
The Academy has been broken into two training groups (Red and Black) which provides players with an opportunity to maximise their development and reach their full potential in this space. Our rigorous program that they have undertaken includes training sessions, specific skills focus, game play tactics and concepts, conditioning, nutrition and competitive matches. Players have engaged in sessions with a football specific focus on combination play, defending 1v1, 2v2 1v2 overload, attacking overloads, attacking at pace, maintaining possession, finishing and compact defensive structures. Most notably, they have participated in training matches against local school and clubs.
The first of these involved our Red group playing Lisarow High School on College Oval #1. Strong play across all areas of the field ensured that our first ever fixture resulted in a good win. A big thanks to the boys from Lisarow High School for coming to our school to play us. Thank you also to the parents, families, teachers, boys and supporters who turned up to watch the match. Congratulations to our goal scorers: Remy Garner (2), Eamon Cassidy, Seb Brocklebank and Ben Hayes.

Intermediate Basketball
The 2024 Intermediate Basketball team travelled to the Terrigal Basketball Stadium, to take on the traditional foes of BBSSSA.
Our toughest opponent was first up in Mater Maria Catholic College and they proved too strong with our shooting and defence not on point. The boys looked to bounce back against St Brigid’s Catholic College, but we still couldn’t find our groove and found scoring a problem. Defensively, the group was ok, but we missed too many shots and lost out at the final hooter. Max James led the line and carried the ball well, while Patrick Oates was our leading rebounder.
The team then had a BYE and a chance to regroup to try and get a much-needed win on the board. The intensity lifted against St Paul’s Catholic College with the boys pressing high up the floor which made scoring much easier. Easy transition baskets from Oscar McMahon, Mason Coleman and Max English proved the difference between the teams.
The team then recorded three straight tied games. A very unusual occurrence. Leading in all three contests with seconds to go, we turned the ball over at crucial times to let the opposition back into the contest. We were up by 6 against St Leo’s Catholic College with a minute to go, but two 3 pointers tied the game and ensured we finished level. MacKillop Catholic College were leading by 2 in the last 30 seconds, but a fine shot from Joel Washington tied the game and the opposition missed their last shot for the second tied game.
Our final match against St Peter’s Catholic College really got away from us as fatigue started to kick in. Kobi Durrant and Aiden Tillott were outstanding in offense, while Fletcher Bush and Ike Diffin rebounded the ball at key times to ensure we maintained possession of the ball in the dying stages. However, we turned the ball over and St Peter’s took full advantage to level the game. We finished the day with 1 win, 2 losses and 3 ties. The boys tried hard all day and gave everything they had in all the games. Unfortunately, we didn’t qualify for the Combined Catholic Colleges Tournament, but the boys will be back in 2025 looking to go that next step.
BBSSSA Intermediate Basketball Results:
St Edward's College v MacKillop Catholic College: Draw 27-27
St Edward's College v St Leo’s Catholic College: Draw 32-32
St Edward's College v St Paul’s Catholic College: Win 34-17
St Edward's College v Mater Maria Catholic College: Loss 15-30
St Edward's College v St Brigid’s Catholic College: Loss 14-23
St Edward's College v St Peter's Catholic College: Tie 28-28
Team:
