On Tuesday 8 May the Year 9 and 10 Touch Football team contested the Hunter/Central Coast All Schools Regional Gala Day at Adcock Park, West Gosford.
The format of the day involved 20 min straight games and a game break between games.
The team was drawn in Pool C and played round games against Wadalba High School (winning 4-0), TLSC Berkeley Vale (winning 3-0), Kincumber High School (winning 5-0) and Lisarow High School (winning 7-2). A great all-round team effort saw St Edward’s score some great team tries and defend strongly.
The team comfortably won their pool and then progressed to the Quarter Finals against Erina High School (winning 7-1).
A Semi Final with Hunter Sports High ensued and the team was cautious of their Newcastle rivals. Both teams started slowly before the St Edward’s boys kicked into gear, dominating possession and field position. This resulted in some great lead-up work to see the team run away winners 5-1.
The Final was against, arch rivals, Narara Valley High School. Nerves got the better of both teams early, with scores tied at 2-2. From there the St Edward’s defence seemed to click and they continued to pressure the Narara Valley attack, leading to errors. St Edward’s capitalised on a glut of possession and ran away with the game to win 7-2.
A tremendous team effort on the day and deserved winners. The boys now progress to the NSW All Schools State Finals to be held at the Kingsway Playing Fields on Friday 1 June.
