Under 14’s Rugby Union – Waratah Cup
On a warm sunny day, the 14’s Rugby team ventured to the King’s School in Sydney to contest the Waratah Cup qualifying rounds.

The first game was against a very strong Endeavor Sports High School team. Our Eddies team played masterfully to control the game in the closing stages and win 17 – 10 (tries to captain Ben Dufficy, Kai Wheelock and Dylan Jackson).

Game 2 put Eddies against a powerful Westfield Sports High. Eddies were starved of possession and lost their captain Ben Dufficy to a hip injury. The team defended magnificently to stay in touch going down only 10 – 0.

In Game 3 the depleted team steeled themselves against a talented Kiama High. The game was played hard and fast with Eddies winning 14 – 0. Tries were scored by Charlie Cartwright and Emmet Nicholls. Eddies finished 2nd in their pool meaning they would battle the 1st placed MacKillop High School, Port Maquarie from the other pool.

With the chance to win a place in the Waratah Cup final at stake and cheered on by St Eddies Opens players, the team saved their best performance of the day to win 24 -7. Tries were scored by Tommo Peters, Charlie Cartwright, Joel Shereb and Ryan Green. The boys are pleased to advance to the final on 29 August  playing at T G Millner Field, with a chance to turn the tables on a quality Westfield Sports High.

The team were great ambassadors for St Edward’s College, and impressed parents, officials and their coaches – Mr Sullivan, Mr Foster and Mr Steele.
