Open’s Basketball
The St Edward’s College opens basketball squad recently won the NSW All Schools Open’s Basketball Division 1 tournament held 11 June at Maitland Federation Centre.

The boys won all pool games in double digits, playing outstanding defense with smooth ball movement that opened up high-percentage looks on offense. St Edward’s reached the final and soundly defeated St Columba Anglican 47-28. Both teams will advance to the state finals in Penrith.

Eddie’s big men dominated throughout the tournament, with Brooklyn Roberts, Tom Roth and Neo Thompson supplying the bulk of the team’s scoring and rebounding. Outstanding senior leadership was provided by Flynn McHale and Liam Hore, who added timely scoring and defensive stops. Stellar guard play and assists were contributed by starters Cruz McMahon and Max James. The bench support, which was significant throughout the tournament, came from Harvey Olsen, Kaine Hieber, Oscar McMahon, and Austin Romain.
