On Friday 21 September, 23 boys headed down to SOPAC, Homebush to represent Broken Bay at the NSWCCC Athletics Championships.
Almost perfect conditions greeted them on arrival, a bright sunny day and a light wind lent itself to very competitive conditions. The following students competed on the day: Luke Adrichem, Aaron Antonio, Harley Dimech, Tyrone Dorrell, Joel Evans, Aymn Hamilton, Will Hamilton, Luke Jacobs, Thomas Lawton, Marley Medina, Noah Morris, Noah Nakagawa, Brandon Naprawski, Sam Norris, Sean Rae, Callum Richardson, James Rigas, Jack Roberts, Gabe Scott, Ethan Short, Cameron Steer, Keenan White and Sam Wilson.
Many of the boys improved on their best times/distances from the Broken Bay carnival, with the following notable individual performances:
- Cameron Steer – 1st U15 100m 3rd U15 Long Jump
- Callum Sutton – 2nd 17+ Discus
- Sean Rae – 2nd U15 1500m
- Ethan Short – 2nd 17+ Javelin
- Gabe Scott – 3rd U14 1500m
Aside from these great results, we had teams in all divisions for the Relay races. The Under 16-17 years (Will Hamilton, Callum Richardson, Ethan Short and Brandon Naprawski) team placed 4th in a hotly contested race, while the Under 12-13 years (Harley Dimech, Marley Medina, Noah Nakagawa and Aymn Hamilton) team narrowly missed out on a medal, winning their heat. However, the highlight of the day was the race involving the Under 14-15 years (Aaron Antonio, Joel Evans, Sam Norris, and Cameron Steer) team who were 5th at the last change. Cameron Steer received the baton and stormed to the lead running a tremendous last leg to bring home Gold.
