There’s no surprise that more young people are more qualified than 10 years ago, but the growing trend of fewer full time positions has major implications.
I am a big believer in up skilling our students with employability skills (more recently referred to as enterprising skills) so that they can navigate a successful working life regardless of a full time status. In essence our boys need to be job creators rather than job seekers. Therefore the more opportunities we can provide our students to develop these skills the better equipped they will be when they transition from St Edward’s to life beyond.
Enterprising skills are: Problem solving, communication, financial literacy, critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, digital literacy and presentation skills. Enterprising skills are transferable from one job to another and crucial to navigating jobs and different careers.
