Drama and Entertainment Semester One Update
This year we warmly welcome Mrs Josephine Emmett to the Drama Faculty. Mrs Emmett is an accomplished performer and experienced teacher and we look forward to working with her in 2018.

The year began with Year 12 Drama visiting the Seymour Centre to watch the Band Six performances of the 2017 HSC. This is a great opportunity for students to see first hand what success looks like in HSC Drama. Following this excursion, Year 12 have also been fortunate enough to have a performance incursion with Anna Houston, a visiting actor from Belvoir Street Theatre. Students were reminded of the fundamentals of warming up the body and voice and were provided with an opportunity to workshop their Individual Project, Performance. The Year 12 Drama Night will be on Monday 2 July, starting at 7.00 pm. Please come along and support our senior students as they showcase their Group Performance and Individual Project’s.

Year 11 Entertainment had a treat, week two of this term with a visit to NIDA. Students worked with industry staging legend, John Grimau to get a hands on experience of working backstage. The workshop allows for students to bump in a staging truck, unpack and prepare a stage for setting. Students then read stage floor plans and erected a set piece, with curtains and stage revolve. Finally, they bumped out the set, repacked the truck and returned the stage space to its orginal state. The feedback from he boys was that they enjoyed having the practical experience of using handtools and creating a set for stage. A huge thank you to Mrs Emmett for organising the day.

Students of Year 9 and 10 Drama have started the year well, by bringing their creativity with them to practical classes and involving themselves. We have had a ‘Growth Mindset’ focus this year, asking the students to focus on learning and seeing effort as the key to success so that they can thrive in the face of a challenge. Students are using OneNote to record their schoolwork, ask your son to show you what he has been learning in class. Year 9 are currently studying Comedy and Clowning whilst Year 10 are focusing on creating their own film. I look forward to seeing their efforts later in the term. The end of year Drama Night will be on Monday 3 December at 7.00 pm, please keep this date free in your calendars.
