Over the last four weeks we have had over 100, Year 11 students attend work placement as part of their VET course. The feedback from employers has been extremely positive with some boys offered apprenticeships due to their skills and work ethic. Congratulations to these boys.
Year 11 students traveled to Sydney to assist in their post HSC planning by attending the HSC and Careers Expo. Students were given a Planning Sheet the day prior, with helpful hints, to assist them target relevant employers, universities, colleges, TAFE and apprenticeships to seek out information that could assist them achieve their goals after the HSC. The mood back on the bus was very positive with boys loaded up with information to engage with back home.
TAFE Try a Skill
There were 25, Year 10 students who visited TAFE at the Ourimbah Campus to literally try a skill in different vocational occupations. I think the pictures speak for themselves.
Year 12 Early Entry Schemes
Reminder that direct early entry schemes to particular universities are closing whilst the entry schemes through UAC will be opening in August.
Year 12 Presentations
Carolina Murdoch, our Teacher and Learning Coordinator, presented “Taking control of your HSC”. This included information on
- What is moderation?
- What is an ATAR?
- Where are you now?
- Success – setting yourself up with strategies to move forward by using your time wisely
- Who can you go to for support
A similar presentation will be presented to Year 11 next term.
APM (Youth Employment Program) was invited to speak to Year 12 students who plan to get a job after their HSC. They informed students on what they need and what they could be doing now to improve their chances of gaining employment.
Central Coast Group Training was invited to speak to Year 12 students who plan to gain an apprenticeship post HSC. They shared with students the ins and outs of apprenticeships and what they can be doing now to improve their chances of securing an apprenticeship.
