In a pool format St Edward’s had 2 games of 3 sets which they were victorious in. This was followed by a semi final and then the final. St Edward’s were dominant all day, playing with a great spirit and showing some very competitive stages of play, digging deep into their skills to come back from being down, sometimes 5-7 points, to win.
Game 1: vs Mackillop College, Warnervale – Set 1: 21-18, Set 2: 17-18 and Set 3: 10-9 in golden point. Lachlan Rousell was instrumental with some outstanding setting of the ball, backed up by Oskar Thompson, Sam Wilson and Chet Robinson being powerful at the net.
Game 2: v St Leo’s College, Wahroonga – Set 1: 26-10 and Set 2: 24-13. Harry Walker stepped up his game and played solidly. By now the boys were displaying an all round display of teamwork and sportsmanship with Harry Wright solid under pressure with Mitchell Brooks, Alex Bailey and Dylan Poate combining to score many valuable points with outstanding teamwork.
Semi Final: vs Mater Maria, Warriewood – Set 1: 16-14 and Set 2: 27-13. In the semi final the team showed they were really playing as a solid unit and put together many great plays.
Final: vs St Paul’s College, Manly – Set 1: 25-9, Set 2: 13-24 and Set 3: 11-7. A minor lapse in the 2nd set however St Edward’s powered home in the Final with an excellent final set of play, making St Edward’s College the BBSSSA 2019 Beach Volleyball champions.
Congratulations to Reid Yarnold who was the best server throughout the day. Well done to all the boys on their teamwork, camaraderie and outstanding sportsmanship.
