Week 4 this term marks the National Week of Action Against Bullying and Violence. The theme for 2024 is “Everyone Belongs” and it is directly in line with the EREA touchstone of Inclusivity that is central to all Edmund Rice schools. While bullying in all its forms is never tolerated at St Edward’s College, it is important for parents and carers to look for signs their child might be experiencing peer conflict at school or online. This is not always easy, as teens can be reluctant to open up to parents about these issues. Changes in mood or behaviour, difficulty sleeping or eating, decreased self esteem and avoidance of certain situations and places can all be telltale signs. Creating an open and non-judgemental space where your child can share their feelings and experiences is important. If needed, families are always encouraged to reach out to the school through their pastoral leader for support. The school counsellors are also a valuable resource open to students. Get in touch with the Pastoral Team for a referral if needed.
If you feel your child may need some support, even if they appear reluctant to open up to you, the resource below has some valuable strategies. Get in touch with the school if needed. We are eager to support your child through their high school journey.
